Agribusiness Study Program Holds Guest Lecture on Certification in Sustainable Palm Oil Management

The Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a guest lecture for the Agribusiness Management course entitled “The Role of Certification in Agribusiness Management of the Palm Oil Commodity.” The lecture was conducted online via Zoom on 28 November 2025, from 09:00 to 10:30 WIB, and was attended by third-semester students enrolled in the Agribusiness Management course.

The guest lecture featured Heni Martanila, SP, M.Agb, a Technical Advisor at Yayasan Lembaga Penelitian Kaleka Indonesia (Kaleka), as the keynote speaker. In her presentation, she highlighted the strategic importance of certification systems in supporting sustainable palm oil management, strengthening governance, and enhancing competitiveness within the agribusiness sector. The session provided students with practical insights into how certification schemes contribute to improved environmental performance, social responsibility, and market access for palm oil commodities.

The lecture aimed to enrich students’ understanding by integrating academic concepts with real-world practices in the agribusiness industry. Through an interactive discussion session, students actively engaged with current issues related to sustainability, certification standards, and challenges faced in their implementation across the palm oil value chain.

Heni Martanila, SP, M.Agb holds a Bachelor’s degree from Universitas Andalas and a Master’s degree from Universitas Udayana. She has been serving as a Technical Advisor at Kaleka since 2017. Her professional expertise includes technical assistance and advisory work in sustainable agribusiness, particularly in the palm oil sector. She has also completed Lead Auditor training for several sustainability certification schemes, including ISPO, RSPO, and SCCS, further strengthening her role as a practitioner in certification and sustainable agribusiness governance.

Kaleka is a sustainable agroforestry research and development think tank organization that focuses on promoting environmentally responsible and socially inclusive agricultural and plantation practices. Kaleka supports organizations and communities in adopting internationally and nationally recognized sustainability standards, including RSPO certification and other sustainability labels.

Kaleka collaborates with various partners, such as Gawi Bapakat, a mass-based organization reaching a large portion of the population in Seruyan; Aliansi Kolibri, an independent grassroots organization committed to protecting remaining natural forests in remote areas of Indonesia; and TaniBaik, a farmer-driven organization providing certification services to help achieve sustainable market standards. Through research, technical assistance, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, Kaleka plays an important role in advancing sustainable palm oil governance in Indonesia.

This guest lecture reflects the Agribusiness Study Program’s commitment to delivering relevant and industry-oriented learning experiences. The Agribusiness Management course is taught by Widya Kartika Laksmawati, M.Sc. and Drs. Acep Muhib, M.M., who continuously encourage academic enrichment through engagement with practitioners and experts in the agribusiness field.

Through this activity, students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the role of certification as a strategic instrument in achieving sustainable and competitive palm oil agribusiness management.
